It was a picture on Instagram that cought my attention. Enough to make me get up up at 5 am and drive from Canggu to Ubud on my scooter to experience Campuhan Ridge Walk for my self.
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is free to access and easy to walk. And a very popular thing to do in Ubud. As it is very hot during the day and probably more busy as the sun was setting, I decided to take the walk as the sun was rising. And going to Campuhan before the sun was up, ment I had to get up really early, as I was living some 30 kilometers away.
On my scooter to Ubud and Campuhan Ridge Walk
Traffic can be busy on Bali, but if you get up early, the only ones you will meet, are Bali people off to work. I enjoyed the one hour it took me on my scooter to get to Ubud, and the starting point of Campuhan Ridge Walk.
Start your walk from Ibah Restaurant
I had my Google maps to direct me towards Ibah restaurant. Just before the restaurant, there is a steep road leading towards the starting point. Here – just above a school – I parked my scooter – and embarked on my “adventure” towards the hills of Ubud.
Going up to the ridge walk it self is really easy. Although the hills looks like they are high above the rest of Ubud, they are really not. That was a little bit of a disappointment I must admit. Only after a few minutes of walking uphill you are at the start of the ridge it self. And then you quickly forget the disappointment due to the mere beauty of your surroundings.
Walking, jogging, droning, marrying
Expect to find people jogging here. Some are just walking also. A lot of people are talking pictures – selfies if you like. This couple, from China, took some wedding pictures. And I was not the only one to bring a drone with me.
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is not that long. Only a few kilometers in fact, which (also) was a little bit of a disappointment. I would have loved to walk in these kinds of settings for a long time. Having said that, I am still truly happy I went on this trip and got to experience this unique place.
I am also very glad I brought my DJI Mavic Pro drone with me. That made it possible to also see some other places nearby, such as the rice terraces on the other side of the hill.
Or these two out working early in the morning.
The colors. The atmosphere. The calm. What’s not to love about this place?
Don’t even think about it. Just go.
If you are going to Bali, you have to visit Ubud. And going up to the Campuhan Ridge Walk is just one of those things you should do when you are in Ubud.
You will love it.
