In the autumn of 2017 I visited a small town called Angvik in Nordmøre, in the municipal of Gjemnes, to hold a presentation. What I found was a beautiful hotel with roots back the 16th century.
Angvik means “narrow fjord” and is pronounced “angvikja”. And in Angvik, which only houses about 300 inhabitans. This small town is located “between” Ålesund and Trondheim, and is the home of the beautiful hotel Angvik Gamle Handelssted. The hotel is a member of Classic Norway and have roots back to the 15th century when Dutch sailing ships anchored in the bay area to buy tinder.
I visited, however, Angvik Gamle Handelssted to hold a presentation, and was blown away by its beauty.
How to get there
There are many ways to get to Angvik and Angvik Gamle Handelssted. I flew with SAS from Oslo to Molde, and from there rented a car to drive the remaining 45 to 60 minutes drive, depending on the weather.
You may also fly to Kristiansund, and drive from there. The drive is approximately the same.
The Angvik Gamle Handelssted hotel
Upon arrival you will be amazed by the tranquility and beauty of the place. The hotel is situated just above sea level, overlooking the sea and the majestic mountains.
The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is quiet. All of the interior makes you relaxed, and I was immediately sadned by the fact that I was going to leave, just hours after I had arrived. I would have loved to stay the night. Or even better – stayed here a full weekend with my wife.
Once you pass the reception, you will find several places to sit down and relax. Read a news paper, do some work, or just have a cup of tea or coffee and take in the magnificent view. Passing the comfortable chairs and the fireplace, you then walk into the restaurant where they serve fantastic food.
Everything at Angvik Gamle Handelssted is ment to calm you down. To make you feel relaxed and “at home” even. The colors of the furniture, the paintings and the interior makes it almost impossible not to breadth more slowly.
Even though I was not going to stay the night, I was lucky enough to have a small visit to one of the 37 rooms. All the rooms are different. All the rooms have their own names.
